While teaching high school creative writing, I put up a sheet of butcher paper and had students write up words they both loved and despised on a banner. They were to collect those words throughout the school year too--collect them and keep them in their pocket, and we used those sheets as a writing prompt at the end, discussing why, in loose linguistic terms, those words spoke to us in the ways that they did.
